With Special Presentation By
Steven Saylor, Author Of A Twist At The End And Enterprise
Join your friends as we salute the past presidents of AWC. The speaker will be Steven Saylor, a well known author of historical mysteries. Mr. Saylor mentions our very own Chateau Bellevue in his earlier book, A Twist At the End. He will be at the club to talk about his new book, Enterprise. Mr. Saylor is also a Professor of Philosophy at UT and Berkeley. Mr. Saylor will sell copies of his new book Enterprise as well as his earlier book, The Triumph of Caesar: A Novel of Ancient Rome, at the club and will be available to autograph the books. Katherine Race, Pianist
Enjoy a variety of classical selections played by pianist Katherine Race. Katherine Race has lived in Austin for many years and has taught piano lessons. She performs for the Wednesday Morning Music Club and other venues. She came here with her late husband William Race who was head of the piano department at UT. Phyllis Noonan will introduce the program.

Ted Wardlaw, President of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary
American Religion in 2010
Ted Wardlaw, President of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, will update us on the trends in modern American religion. Ted graduated from Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC, Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA and Yale University. The son and brother of Presbyterian ministers, he has served churches in Tennessee, New York and Georgia before moving to Austin. He is married to Kay Bryant, a clinical psychologist, and has two daughters. Robin Ruth Alexander will introduce the program.

Barbara Vacker
“How Mrs. Pennybacker Saved the Chautauqua Woman’s Club”
This book is the story of Texas’ Mrs. Percy V. Pennybacker, one of the founders of the Austin Woman’s Club, and author of the A New History of Texas for Schools. She also served as President of the Chautauqua Woman’s Club. Barbara Vacker, another native Texan, will present the story of Mrs. Pennybacker’s saving the Chautauqua Woman’s Club.
Barbara’s own accomplishments include her being a founding member of the Women’s Network, National History Museum, and Leadership Austin. She also served as an assistant to President Johnson. Martha Miller will introduce the speaker.

Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum
Nelie Plourde, the executive director and curator of the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum, will present a lighthearted history of the museum with anecdotal stories about exhibits, educational programs, parties, weddings and much more. She will also preview events planned in 2011 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum and to commemorate the 100th birthday of Charles Umlauf. Rose Betty Williams will introduce the speaker.

Annette Eickert, cellist and Phyllis Noonan, pianist
Annette Eickert, cellist, and Phyllis Noonan, pianist, will play a program of cello music that is varied and exciting. Annette, a native of Germany, lives in Austin and teaches cello in the public schools. Before moving here, she performed for the opera company orchestra in Germany. Annette belongs to the Wednesday Morning Music Club and will perform for the music club this coming year. Phyllis is a beloved member of the AWC as well as the Austin music community. These are outstanding musicians!

Bill Whitehurst
A Photo-Journey Through Nepal and India
Bill Whitehurst will present a fabulous photo-journey through Nepal and India, from Varanasi to Goa. Varanasi is among the oldest cities in the world and is the holiest of Hindu pilgrimages. Delhi is steeped in 3000 years of history. The most famous monument in Agra is the Taj Mahal. Udaipur’s City Palace is stunning as is the Jain temple nearby. Visit Jaipur, known as the Pink City with its massive forts and magnificent palaces. Mumbai to Goa is an entirely different terrain and feel. Join us--you have a First Class seat.
