Book Review • 11:30 a.m.
Dr. Jane Bugnand, will review the book “A Legacy of Ashes” by Tim Weiner.  Where have our civil liberties gone? Are we too overprotected these days? 
What is the history of the giant spy agency, CIA, and how does it impact our lives? A new resident of Austin and recently retired, Dr. Furlong was a professor of child development at Pace Institute in New York City. Helen Furlong will introduce Dr. Bugnand.

Musical Duets • 11:30 a.m.
Enjoy Phyllis Noonan and Carmen Marino play piano duets by
Schubert, Gerswhin, and Copland. They will play Schubert’s Rondeau, Gershwin’s 2 Preludes and Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring with the tune of “The Gift to be Simple.” Phyllis Noonan will introduce the program.

December 4
Austin History Center • 11:30 a.m.
Hear Mike Miller, Director of the Austin History Center, and Kay Hart, from the Austin History Center Association. They will read letters taken from the collection of papers donated to the Austin History Center by descendants of the Pease family and talk about life in Texas during the mid-1800s. Helen Furlong will introduce
the program.

December 11
The Traditions and Artistry of Afghani, Pakistani and Persian  Rugs • 11:30 a.m.
Our guest speaker is Dr. Carla Petievich, director of Hoshyar Foundation whose goal is to raise and distribute funds in support of human empowerment through female education. She will discuss Kilimania, a Hoshyar Foundation project designed to promote appreciation of carpet weaving which is traditionally a female art form. Kilimania buys and sells the work of tribal weavers in Central and South Asia and recycles the proceeds in grants, loans and other financial resources to educate girls. Dr.Petievich will display tribal Afghani and Pakistani rugs and discuss their artistry. Many of the rugs will be available for purchase. Rose Betty Williams will introduce the program.

Christmas Music • 11:30 a.m.
Sheryl Goodnight, flutist, and Dr. Stephen Burnaman, pianist, will entertain us with
classical Christmas music. Selections include What Child Is this, Low How a Rose eir Bloomin, Ding Dong Merrily on High, The Cherry Tree Carol, The Holly and the Ivy. Phyllis Noonan will introduce the program.
