American History Club: Precedent Setting Supreme Court Decisions
Club member Mary Ann Porcher will present the following as a part of their year-long study of the landmark cases that impact our nation: The University of California vs. Bakke. The Supreme Court has shaped our history and our future. Join us for this fascinating look at the legal decisions that mark our course. Carol Schlenk, President of the American History Club, will introduce Ms. Porcher.

The Last Supper in Art: Leonardo da Vinci to Judy Chicago by The Reverend Dr. Rick MacArthur.
Rev. MacArthur is an art historian and university professor of Art History and Humanities at St. Edwards and Concordia. He will present a program about the sacred art of Lent. Rev. MacArthur is also a pastor at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Rose Betty Williams will introduce Rev. MacArthur.

John Booth: Focus on Telescopes
John Booth has some fascinating stories to tell about telescopes…huge ones like those at the U.T. McDonald Observatory where he is Chief Engineer. He joined McDonald Observatory, near Ft. Davis, in the 1980’s and played a key role in the construction of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope. He also consults as far away as South Africa when a telescope needs attention. You won’t want to miss the exciting story of building one of the world’s largest telescopes, where Texas colleagues have discovered five new planets using McDonald’s telescopes to confirm discoveries. John will be introduced by Jan Roberts.

“What on Earth Is Going On In Our World Today?”
Admiral Bobby Inman, USN (Ret.) Admiral Inman graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1950 and from the National War College in 1972. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-82. While on active duty he served as Director of the National Security Agency and Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. After retirement he was appointed as a tenured professor at UT, holding the LBJ Centennial Chair in National Policy in 2001. He has served as Interim Dean of the LBJ School of Public Affairs twice. In addition to serving as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, he has received numerous appointments and honors. Jan Roberts will introduce Admiral Inman.

Secrets Locked In Your Colored Gems Senior Gemologist Ralph Morgan, is a specialist in colored gems and will be at the club with his equipment to look at our sparkling mysteries. Wear your emeralds, sapphires or rubies and learn more about your favorite pieces. He will share plenty of information, but he will not be able to give appraisals at this time. A graduate of the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, California, he has had a life long interest in gems since he began looking for garnets and quartz in the mountains near his New England home as a boy. He has conducted appraisals for the retail jewelry industry as well as imported gems from around the world. He currently works as an ICU Heart Nurse at St. David’s and schedules Jewelry appraisals through the Austin Antiques Mall by appointment. Ralph will be introduced by Ann Wilhelm.
