July 8 Transforming Cowboy Boots into Wearable Art 11:30 a.m.
Austin artist Jen McCredie will share her passion for painting Western Boots. She’ll discuss how she transforms old and new cowboy boots into wearable art with colorful designs that reflect the personalities of her clients and are often inspired by her love for Mexico and its culture. She’ll show us a variety of boots, tell us the story behind each pair, and how through conversations with her clients, she creates customized cowboy boots that become treasures - wearable art with very special personal statements. July 22 Jeff Francell 11:30 a.m.
Jeff Francell, Director of Water and Land Protection for the Texas Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, has worked in conservation for over 15 years and is widely regarded as a creative mind in conservation real estate. Texas is one of the most biologically diverse states in the nation, but it is losing its undeveloped land faster than any other state. With a commitment to conserving Texas’ native animals, plants and landscapes, Texas Nature Conservancy has protected 750,000 acres in Texas. Jeff previously worked for The National Audubon Society and The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, so his personal determination to protect our threatened natural heritage is evident. July 29 Janis Williams, “Telling the Stories of Austin” 11:30 a.m.
Author and editor Janis Williams’ work has appeared in magazines ranging from Texas Monthly to The Saturday Evening Post. She has written 10 biographies of remarkable people. Her presentation will focus on the Austin of the 1930s, 40s, 50s and 60s-a very different Austin from that of today! Come revisit our town and revive your memories of a community that was smaller yet still vital, forward-thinking and influential.! Janis will be introduced by Ann Wilhelm. August 5 Dr. Jennifred Davies, "From Dream to Reality" 11:30 a.m.
From Dream to Reality, the story of the development of our educational program will be presented by Dr. Jennifred Davies, the author of “Discovering the Treasures of Chateau Bellevue’ and the companion guide “Windows.” Let us, also, take this time to honor Mary Padgett and Dr. Davies for their dedication and diligence in creating this program. August 12 Colin Haymes, "The Life and Art of Elisabet Ney" 11:30 a.m
Colin Haymes from the Elisabet Ney Museum will present a brief look at the life and art of one of the most colorful and influential women in early Texas history. He’ll show us photos of Formosa, the former sculpture studio created by visionary nineteenth-century sculptor Elisabet Ney, which later became the Elisabet Ney Museum. Venerated as the oldest art museum in Texas and a national, state and local historic landmark, the Elisabet Ney Museum offers visitors a lovingly preserved glimpse into 19th century European and early Texas history, as well as the life of a creative and spirited woman who lived life passionately in her own inimitable way. August 26 Kay Jay, University of Texas Historical Textiles and Apparel Collection, 11:30 a.m.
Dr. Kay Jay, the Director of Historical Textiles and Apparel Collection,
will share with us samples from the Collection, and tell us about her fascinating job at the University of Texas School of Human Ecology. She holds a BS from Oklahoma State, an MS from Colorado State and a PhD from U.T. Dr. Jay will focus on preservation and storage of textile artifacts among our family treasures, and the importance of gathering and preserving family stories. A special treat will be a slide presentation summarizing the collection and the current Jean Andrews Exhibit. She will be introduced by Jan Roberts.
