JULY

JULY 3        BOOK REVIEW                        11:00 A.M.
 
Dr. Josie Champion will review the new book by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy, called “The Preacher and the President,” which describes the Reverend Billy Graham as Pastor to eleven presidents. Dr. Jenny Lind Porter Scott will introduce the speaker. Chairman: Joy Osner: Co-Chairman: Phyllis Sharp.

JULY 10      ARTIST MARY PAIGE HUEY   11:30 A.M.

Lifelong resident of Austin, Mary Paige Huey, received her bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas. While raising her family, Mary, was very active in the arts community. Perhaps she is best known as a sculptor in stone which she taught at Laguna Gloria for eleven years. Mary learned the basics of film photography in the 70s to photograph her artwork. She has since started a business in photo restoration. Anne Brooking will introduce Mary. Chairman: Betty Lou Voorhis; Co-Chairman: Edith Knauer.

JULY 17     SYNTHESIS OF MUSIC & LITERATURE                                                                           11:30 A.M.

P. Kellach Waddle will premier new music from his upcoming concert focusing on his “Synthesis of Music and Literature.” Featured will be music reflecting the works of Ernest Hemingway. On June 2nd, Mr. Waddle won the Austin Critic’s Table Award for Music. Hostess Chairman: Lois Martin; Co-Chairman: Anne Mauzy.

JULY 24      WILLS AND ESTATES, 101       11:30 A.M.

Noted Austin attorney, Al Golden, will share information and interesting asides he has amassed and witnessed in his 40 years of practice as a wills and estates lawyer. Al will be introduced by Mary Gay Grigg. Hostess Chairman: Bun Mark; Co-Chairman: Anne Koenig.

JULY 31      SPECIAL STUDIES                    11:30 A.M.

Sallie Delahoussay of Wildlife Rescue will give a very interesting talk on the protection and rescuing of wildlife. Sallie will be introduced by Sissy Lawshae. Hostess Chairman: Peggy Daniel; Co-Chairman: Donna Foster.

AUGUST  7   SHOW AND TELL                    11:00 A.M.

Margaret Walker will bring us “Good Grief!” The Victorians lived (and died) by the rules, so you don’t want to miss this show and tell of Victorian mourning, customs, hair flowers, plus a few tall tales. Dr. Jenny Lind Porter Scott will introduce Margaret. Hostess Chairman: Barbara Woelk; Co-Chairman: Patty Swenson.

AUGUST 14   SCULPTOR LANCE WEIR    11:30 A.M.

COME SEE!...a bronze of Willie Nelson so lifelike you'll expect him to sing any moment...and a wondrous bust of Albert Einstein...and small bronzes of adorable children -- all by talented portrait sculptor BETH SCHOEN. Think Christmas! AUGUST 21      JESSICA MATHAES          11:30 A.M.

Jessica Mathaes will return to preview the release of her first solo album. Jessica, a Concert Master of the Austin Symphony Orchestra was a huge hit earlier this year and returns knowing exactly “which piece I will play for the wonderful women from my new album”. AUGUST 28     TARTAN AND TATTOO      11:30 A.M.

Join Sidney Jones as she marches us through one of the most exciting spectacles of the Edinburgh International Festival held each August in Scotland’s capitol city. The Military Tattoo is THE hottest ticket at this gathering of international artists of all fields. Mary Gay Grigg will introduce Sidney. Hostess Chairman: Sandy Scalco: Co-Chairman: Pat Harris.
